Dry Cargo Chartering
The dry cargo market can be volatile; the period 2003-2009 witnessed
a six-fold increase in rates, with some spectacular peaks and troughs, culminating in the dramatic
collapse of the market in the 4th quarter of 2008.
SPS was able to guide its clients in this difficult environment, enabling
them to achieve some notable successes. Since 2009 the dry cargo market has struggled to achieve an equilibrium as new tonnage ordered during the boom years has been delivered into difficult market conditions.
SPS concentrates on the handy-size and handymax tonnage sectors, offering its
expertise in finding the right vessels for its clients, whether this means
boxhold, open-hatch ships for pipe cargoes (see below), specialist logs fitted
vessels or conventional bulk carriers.
